Today, Dan Campbell praised a possible trade candidate. Campbell singled out one key player for some high praise in preparation for this Sunday’s clash with the Tennessee Titans.
The player in question? Defensive end Harold Landry. On the Lions’ Inside the Pride YouTube show, Campbell spoke to team reporter Dannie Rogers about the Titans, particularly Landry.
On Landry, the Detroit Lions head coach said:
“Landry’s got the quickness and speed. He’s an outstanding rusher, too; he can dip, rip, and leverage – the whole thing.”
Following Aidan Hutchinson’s heartbreaking injury, many pundits and fans have linked various edge rushers to the Lions. During his Tuesday press conference, Dan Campbell mentioned that he was watching potential players.
The Lions’ front four toiled against Minnesota. Detroit struggled to create pressure without bringing blitzing linebackers. If the Lions are to push for an NFC North title and make a deep run into the playoffs, they must add someone on the defensive line.
Could Landry be that player? The Titans certainly seem in a selling mood. They have already traded wide receiver DeAndre Hopkins and linebacker Ernest Jones.
At his Wednesday press conference, Titans head coach Brian Callahan told the press that he expects more roster movement for the next period.
Landry could undoubtedly be another player Tennessee shops as they look to rebuild their roster. At 28, Landry is a former Pro Bowl defender under contract until 2027. Per Over The Cap, Landry’s cap number for 2024 is $23.8 million, and $24 million in the following two years.
Moreover, 2024 is the final year of any guaranteed money for Landry. Landry has recorded over 45 pressures in the last four seasons, tallied double-digit sacks in three of the previous four seasons and would provide speed and burst on the Lions’ defensive line.
Landry would also be an excellent foil for Aidan Hutchinson when the Michigan man returns from injury.
Dan Campbell and his Lions staff will get an up-close view of Landry’s ability on Sunday. It is a perfect scouting opportunity. And if the Titans are in selling mode, Landry could swap Music City for Motown.
