Jameson Williams Earns High Praise After 1,000 Yard Season

Jameson Williams’ fledgling NFL career finally overcame the turbulence and took full flight in 2024.

The former first-round pick stitched a consistent regular season, paying off with over 1,000 receiving yards and seven receiving touchdowns.

Injury, suspensions and off-field drama blighted Williams’ maiden NFL seasons, and while those issues threatened to derail his 2024 campaign, they did not.

And Detroit Lions Head Coach Dan Campbell singled out his young speedster for significant praise at Thursday’s press conference.

Campbell – ‘I’m Proud of Jameson’

Known for being a players coach, Campbell beamed when speaking about Williams:

“I’ve got a lot of pride in him, man. He’s one of those guys, man. I love that kid. He’s had to endure a lot — and look, some of it was his own doing, and he knows that. That’s what I appreciate about him.”

Williams’ 2024 charge sheet is not without controversy. A PES suspension and a police incident regarding a gun and spats with Tyrique Stevenson have been the negatives.

After the run-in with Stevenson on Thanksgiving, the Lions benched Williams. The former Alabama star immediately apologized to his teammates.

That remorseful gesture went a long way with the locker room.

    Campbell explained:

“Honestly, the best thing he’s done is when he finally dropped the armor and endeared himself to his teammates and became part of the team. He can be a little hard-headed, and that’s also why I love him. But, man. He’s learned along the way, and he’s growing.”

The cameras perfectly caught that moment when Jared Goff went straight over to Williams after the Week 18 Minnesota Vikings matchup. ‘I’m proud of you, man,’ Goff told Williams.

    Williams – ‘Not Done Yet’

A 1,000-yard receiving is an important milestone in a young player’s career.

But Williams wants more. The third-year player confirmed his immediate goals during an interview this week:

“It meant a lot. But I’m past that, you know. We got three games left. I’m trying to focus on trying to get something on the fingers.”

Jameson Williams has made tough catches all season. He has made explosive plays. If ‘Waymo’ can do that on Saturday, the Lions will have a legitimate shot at moving on to the next round.
