Dan Campbell Heaps Praise on Two Detroit Lions Stars

Dan Campbell lavished praise on two highly important Detroit Lions during Saturday’s practice session.

Day six of camp saw the Lions welcome season ticket holders to Allen Park and welcome the cameras for Back Together Weekend.

And NFL Network insider Tom Pelissero was on hand to speak to Coach Campbell and discuss how the early days of camp have gone for the team.

Pelissero initially asked about star Defensive End Aidan Hutchinson and his recovery.

“I see a player that is very confident in his abilities,” Campbell said.

“I see a player that appears to be even better than last year, and appears even hungrier. It is good to have him back.”

    Campbell continued:

“That is a testament to Aidan. It starts with him. He is all business. He put in the work. Aidan’s a worker. He does not get down in the dumps and get down on himself.”

Hutchinson was playing at a Defensive Player of the Year level before his injury in Dallas. The former first-round pick is crucial to Detroit’s defense and its Super Bowl aspirations.

And Hutchinson was not the only player to get praise from Dan Campbell. The Wolverines fellow first-round pick from 2022 James Williams earned high praise from Detroit’s head coach.

Williams’ mercurial talent is readily apparent. But injuries, suspension and immature incidents have hindered Williams’ early NFL career.

However, coming into year four, Coach Campbell believes that Williams is ready to take the next step:

“Growth and development. Jamo is entering year four, and you see a much more polished and mature player. He’s leading the young guys, and his route running, the detail, and explosiveness. He’s understanding what he is capable of. It is great to see. Fired up to have him.”

Williams enjoyed the best season of his fledgling career last year. If the Alabama product can take another step forward, he could unlock another potent level of the Lions’ offense.
