Tracy Walker Hints That Lions Career Is Over

Safety Tracy Walker has hinted that his time as a Detroit Lion is over.

The veteran defender penned a lengthy post on social media. In it, Walker thanked the Ford family and the fans for the previous six years.

The news is not a complete shock for Lions fans. Walker’s snap count dwindled in 2023. He played 50% of available defensive snaps, started six games and ended the season as a healthy scratch on numerous occasions.

But the NFL is a next-man-up league. Youngsters Kerby Joseph and Ifeatu Melifonwu stepped up and became integral players. Add that to CJ Gardner-Johnson’s arrival, and Walker had lost his place.

The Lions are going to release Walker. His release will create $5.5 million in cap space.

The Bob Quinn/Matt Patricia regime drafted Tracy Walker in 2018. He became a solid starter for the Lions. But the NFL moves quickly.

Nevertheless, he enjoyed the Lions’ magical ride to the NFC Championship game. After clinching the NFC North title in Minnesota, Dan Campbell called for the Louisiana product.

The 29-year-old was one of the ‘old guard.’ And he rightly broke the celebrations down. And that will undoubtedly be the highlight of his Lions career.
