Sam LaPorta Provides Positive Injury Update

Detroit Lions tight end Sam LaPorta gave the Lions a positive update on his knee injury. The rookie sensation sustained a knee injury in the first half of Detroit’s Week 18 matchup with the Minnesota Vikings.

LaPorta left the game and did not return. It didn’t look good, and it seemed as if his playoff hopes were over. However, head coach Dan Campbell gave the Lions some good news earlier this week:

“LaPorta has an outside shot now. We’ll know a lot in 48 hours with him. He’s got an outside shot.”

Campbell also suggested that LaPorta’s absence would be days and not months. The rookie spoke to the media after Thursday’s training session and said the following:

“I got some reps today at practice. I’m starting to feel better day by day, and I’ll see where it takes me tomorrow. Really just taking it a day at a time. It didn’t feel great when it first happened, and I feel like I’ve started to bounce back quickly. We’ll see, I’m optimistic.”

LaPorta confirmed he did some individual work and practised routes and blocking plays with Jared Goff. The rookie also confirmed he was wearing a brace on his knee.

LaPorta’s injury is similar to Travis Kelce’s injury in the regular season. Kelce did not miss significant time, although the injury would have hindered him and his usage.
