Dan Campbell’s message for the Lions on second-half of the season

The Detroit Lions went into their Week 9 bye week putting their loss to the Baltimore Ravens in the rearview mirror and securing a 26-14 win over the Las Vegas Raiders. Tuesday’s practice saw all 53 active players accounted for, to say that the team’s bye came at the perfect moment would be an understatement. Head coach Dan Campbell spoke to the media ahead of today’s practice and relayed the message he had for his team.

We’ve been able to earn six wins up to this point, in eight games. We’re not guaranteed six more wins playing the way that we played in the first HALF. We have to get better.

While starting the first-half of the season on a high note, Campbell is very much aware that maintaining the winning consistency in the second-half of the season is just as important. “There’s team that are jockeying for these spots, and what happens, some of these teams that look pretty good right now will begin to fall, and some of these other teams will start rattling off some wins,” the Lions coach said.

With a 6-2 record midway through the season, the Lions are sitting atop the NFC North and solely holding the No. 2 seed in the NFC playoff picture. Take make sure his Lions can hold on to that position, or possibly take over the No. 1 seed in the NFC, the team will need to work on its consistency in putting together a complete game. “We still have not put a complete game in all three phases in one game,” Campbell explained.

Currently the Lions overall team ranks:

    • 12th in team offense
    • 13th in team defense

Overall team ranks include all stats from each side of the ball, and tell a better story than individual metrics. For example, the Lions average the second-most yards per game at 390.6 you would assume the Lions are better than 12th overall in team offense.

Campbell’s Lions make the long country-cross trip to Los Angeles in hopes of slowing down Justin Herbert and the Chargers to secure their seventh win of the season.
