Jared Goff is one of the NFL’s in-form quarterbacks. The 30-year-old has played exceptionally in the last four weeks and is getting praised across the NFL’s media landscape.
Goff has thrown more touchdowns than incompletions in the last four games. That had not happened since 1940, per CBS Sports. Goff is also the fourth quarterback to record a passer rating above 140 in three consecutive games. The three previous quarterbacks are Aaron Rodgers, Kurt Warner and Roger Staubach.
Once labelled as the ‘throwaway,’ in the 2021 Matthew Stafford trade, Goff is now playing at an MVP level.
Jared Goff should be 3rd (currently 4th) in the 2024 NFL MVP Race.

Following last Sunday’s win over the Minnesota Vikings, Terry Bradshaw compared Goff to Tom Brady. On Tuesday’s Rich Eisen Show, head coach Dan Campbell likened Goff to Drew Brees.
And now former Super Bowl-winning head coach Jon Gruden has weighed in on the conversation.
Gruden appeared on Pardon My Take and said the following:
“I did a thing last week on the Detroit Lions, and I think Jared Goff is starting to look like Joe Montana to me. He plays with continuous movement. He completes almost every pass; he is tough as hell.”
When Joe Montana was at his peak, Gruden was on the San Francisco 49ers’ coaching staff. It is serious praise.
Ironically, Goff wears number 16 to nod to Joe Montana, his father’s favourite player.
But in typical Jared Goff fashion, the veteran quarterback is keeping everything in perspective, ensuring that the media know it is a team effort driving the Lions.
Goff told reporters on Wednesday:
“Typically, the guys on the best teams in the league get MVP attention. And a whole lot of guys on this team could be in the conversation. We’re just trying to keep winning games.”
