Dan Campbell gave Detroit Lions fans some early positive news ahead of Detroit’s mammoth Sunday Night Football matchup against the Minnesota Vikings.
Campbell spoke to the press for the first time since the team’s win over the San Francisco 49ers on Monday Night Football.
After that game, Campbell told reporters that Linebacker Alex Anzalone was very close to returning from injury.
Anzalone suffered a broken forearm in early November, and the Lions have missed their defensive captain.
Detroit’s defense toiled against the 49ers, conceding over 30 points for the third time in December.
Earlier on Wednesday, NFL insider Ian Rapaport stated that Sunday would come too soon for Anzalone.
ESPN NFL insider Adam Schefter then stated that Anzalone has a ‘realistic chance’ of taking the field against Minnesota.
Lions LB Alex Anzalone, who hasn’t played since breaking his forearm in Week 11, was listed a limited participant in practice today and has “a realistic chance” to play Sunday night vs. the Vikings, per source.

Anzalone participated in Detroit’s Wednesday walkthrough as a limited participant.
Coach Dan Campbell did not give too much away but stated that Thursday is a big day for Anzalone:
“Tomorrow is going to be a really big day for us to see where he’s at.”
